Printed Poinsettias

I used these tools and tempera paint to make these printed poinsettias. Cut sponges into leaf shapes and use a clip clothes pin as a handle. The small sponge can be used to make leaves or small flowers. The background color was applied with the last sponge or a brush and white paint finished the flowers.

Fused Glass

I attended a glass fusing workshop at the Illinois Art Education Association Conference and created a water themed sun catcher.

I used a clear piece of glass for the base then cut and layered colored glass on top that I attached with small amounts of Elmer's glue.

Fine particles of glass filled in some of the areas to add texture and glass pebbles added dimension. The pieces were fired in a kiln and the final result...

...beautiful!

Fall Tree

I used oil pastel to create a fall tree with a swirling background. Not my usual medium. I've been teaching this to first graders this week so the rich oil pastel called out to me!

Rusty Kitty

We're thinking about getting another cat because Rusty is starting to get wacky since Maggie died. He is not content to be by himself but demands constant attention. We think he's lonely. He's almost like a dog! Right now he's fetching a toy up and down the basement stairs.

Here's a portrait of Rusty - watercolor and white acrylic ink.

Black and White

My favorite thing to do is to draw stacks of flowers with a micron pen.
Color comes later.

Summer

It's been a busy summer for me with watching my son play baseball and going on college visits.  Making art has slowed down quite a bit but when you have your phone there is always the opportunity to find a beautiful shot. The clouds above are right in my neighborhood during an evening walk.

I found this beautiful blue jay feather on my deck

and this is the sunset on the roof of a building at Georgia Tech on a sweltering hot summer evening.
